19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since March of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a close third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
